Get On the Lake As of August 1st, 2010 It's the dog days of summer on Norfork Lake. That's right, dog days. But not too doggie. Why? Because summer is 5 months long on Norfork Lake. There is plenty of summer left for that trip to Norfork Lake. Warmer days make for a pleasant day on the lake, typical of the Ozark Mountains this time of year. The lake has been calm and peaceful as of late and is great shape. Clean, clear, flat as glass, and warm, like upper 80's warm, just as you would expect Norfork Lake to be. And there is plenty of sand at the beaches and Sand Island. The lake level is normal. The shoreline is in the gravel, perfect for that summer fishing trip. All Norfork Lake Chamber of Commerce members report operating as usual. The Corps of Engineer parks and campgrounds are operating on their summer schedule. Be sure to call 870-425-2700 for campsite availability. By the way, flush toilets and shower facilities were installed at many of the the Corps parks this past winter. Speaking of fishing, THE BITE”S ON! The action has been everywhere, in the creeks, the flatter points, and the dam area. Check with your favorite chamber member or our local fishing reports for the most up to date conditions. Speaking of fishing, THE BITE”S ON! For you anglers, the stripers are in their early summer patterns. The early morning top water bite is strong most days. For the best dates, better make your Memorial Day and summer plans now. We’re filling fast! NORFORK LAKE AREA ACCESSIBLY The lake is fully accessible and ready to be enjoyed. Access to Norfork Lake and the North Fork River is available at all locations. HOW’S THE FISHING? Overall, fishing has been incredible this year and will be for years to come. Because of the 2002, 2008, and 2009 higher spring water levels, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission reports the Norfork Lake fish population has exploded. For up to date information, check the current fishing reports published on our Fishing Report Webpage or with your favorite chamber member. Now is a good time to book that guided Norfork Lake Striper fishing trip. The bite is on! IS THE LAKE SAFE & CLEAN? Absolutely! Norfork Lake is nationally famous for its pollution free waters. The Corps of Engineers report no concerns regarding the safety. The water quality of Norfork Lake is one of the best in the country. IS ANYTHING DIFFERENT? Really not much. The same great features that Norfork Lake is nationally famous and that you are accustomed to are available for your enjoyment. You will find access, conditions, and approaches to the parks, marinas, and resort boat docks normal for this time of year.
